| I checked the new posts and every topic was about marriage or finding a wife. We are talking about a country that has some of the brilliant minds in the world. Historiaclly very important and has a great culture. |

Um. . Paul. You posted the 'Russian Girls' video.
So you're as guilty as anyone.
Check your own posts, comrade |

I thought you said you've changed... I guess not. Fauste is alive and well. Why is such over-reaction? |

Vitali. I remember when you came to this site and talk about and your religion. You were on a mission. I remember the great debates about religion you had. Now you talk about scmmers and try to peddle flowers. I had great respect about your wisdom about religion and how you changed coming to the USA. What happened to you? I generally kept my mouth shut about everything unlike you and many others.
Over reaction maybe, but I have given rude comments about a humourous video. Insults by someone who never watched the video and this person above stating that I am also into this bride seeking thingee. It was a bloody joke about the Russian woman stereotype for frig sake and now I have to explain why the video was posted.
This forum unfortuately falls into two categories: Bride/Husband Seekers and Nationalistic Political Arguments.
I do not mind helping these people out to travel, but please leave the " I hate my own country's women/men" and "my country is superior" thing at the door.
Why can't we discuss great literature, paintings, sports, adventures and such. Why is it "where can I find a Russian bride" or " Russia or USA is a horrible country". If you were an outsider coming to this forum, the only thing Russia can offer is bride or a husband. I just want some diverse topics that show the greatness of Russia, not just marriage.
Dr Fauste will always exist. Too bad the old Vitali sold out long tiime ago. |

It has been noted, and I realise that most of them veer into flames as soon as they started.
A few posts have been deleted, and moved to Not Relevant.
Of course it helps if some of you can resist the temptation to react on every single topic consisting of the words, marriage, bride, Russian women, scam, online dating etc.
By replying to such posts, you simply make WTR come up more often on the search engines by making such threads longer when some idiot comes and google "how can I travel to Russia find a Russian wife because my country's women hate me".
It has only come to the point where mods should have stood by the original policy--there will be no arguments about the deleting/editing/moving of posts/threads on these topics. If you do not like our so-called 'censorship' policies, please leave. |

Did I say anything about banning or deleting?
No
I suggested that we should encourage other conversation about trips and visits.
Maybe Dmitri can look at contest for the best trip to Russia adventure or discussion Russian experiences. Something to get away from marriage topics.
Maybe Photoshop competition with a story. |

These topics don't even offer 'content' anymore, they just develop into an endless duplication of the same 'arguments', bashing and shouting contests. Every new thread on this subject is alike. It clogs up the whole forum, suppressing the more interesting topics on Russia.
Unless any of you guys want to state that this is what Russia is all about, please focus on different topics. Something that actually appeals to our imagination. |

Thanks Rick, you are the best.
I think it is time to take my quarterly vacation from the forum and wait till it turns back to more quality. |

In my short time here, I suspect most people post and reply on a 'need to know' basis.
Paul complains:
| Quote: |
Why can't we discuss great literature, paintings . . . |
Well, we can. There is a section. But people largely post for answers to urgent questions, and history and culture are rarely urgent. That's the way it is.
Moreover, to state the obvious, most people do not travel primarily for culture. Millions of people go to Spain, Turkey or the South of France to do no more than to lie on the beach or sit around a pool.
On the other hand, thousands of people do not to go to Russia to lie on the beach or sit around the pool. Like it or not, you will have to accept that a significant amount of visitors to WTR are going to be 'bride seekers'.
So, you can take a view. You can outlaw all such posts from all such people. Thereby alienating a large potential market for WTR. Or you can find some way to manage and compartmentalise them within the forum.
Or - third option - as wavetossed once suggested, you formulate a polite, stock answer which refers posters to other specialist groups dedicated to this topic. With a rider, 'but please come back when you need help with your travel plans. Thanks'. This would be far better PR than consigning them to irrelevance.
Mediashark comments that it's posts like these which generate 'unwanted' results at the top of Google searches. Hmmm. Wearing my business hat, I'd say that's a nice problem to have. It shows you've tapped a high-interest area. And by the way, it isn't just forum posts - the WTR editorial section on Russian women often turns up as a result topper too.
Of course Rick is quite right. The arguments on this issue are endlessly cyclic and polarised. For this reason, it might indeed be kinder to refer such posters to groups where they are in the company of like-minded individuals. Or create a cocoon for them here.
At the moment, I feel people are 'living in denial' on this issue. Whatever we think as individuals, it isn't always a shared view. And the current dismissiveness could be bad for business. Your call.
By the way. One of the most interesting (to me) threads I came across here was one about Soviet apartment blocks - where Rick posted a picture of a Dutch housing estate that looked for all the world like Novosibirsk. Well, would you believe it. Even a discussion about functional architecture got flamed halfway through.
There really isn't such a thing as a safe topic on an Internet forum whatever you do. |

The funny/sad thing is that the Russian bride/political flame bait posts always seem to be the only ones that get any real volume of replies. Maybe they should all be sent to one particular forum (perhaps a new one could be started?) and whoever wanted to reply to them could have a heyday.
I know I've been guilty of getting involved with the stupidity myself in the past while, but reading this post I now plan to cease and desist.
Let's save it all for the (upcoming?) weekly chat, yes? That should be fun . . . |
