|
|
Hi there,
We are planning to travel via the Trans Sib - approx strating around the end of July/August. We are currently based in the UK. We are thinking of visiting the following places -
Moscow
Ekaterinburg
Irkutsk and Baikal Lake
Ulan-Uday
Ulaanbaatar
Looking for suggestions as to the best way to book the train from the UK, approx costs and if accommodation needs to be pre booked - we would like to do some home stays.
Any other tips or suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks |

The better way is not to book the tickets in the UK. You may buy them when you arrive in Moscow otherwise you will overpay 300%.
You may book your tickets on 7-495-266-8333 an buy them at the agency at Komsomolskaya not later than 1 day before departure. In this case you overpay just 170 roubles per ticket. Ask someone who speaks Russian to call for you.
You may check the tickets availability regularly and if you see that there are many available tickets you don't need to book them. |

The suggestion of Ekaterina is fair, BUT sometimes it's better to
overpay for the tickets 30-50$ and have them in advance, then stuck in
Moscow for a week without tickets. Besides, I don't think that
7-495-266-8333 number is useful as no one speak English there and they
are quite rude(Soviet school). |

It is very difficult to get stuck in Moscow if there are almost 20 trains a day from Moscow to Ekaterinburg.
I always use the oficial service of Russian railway agency and for last 10 years they have never been rude. As for their English, I wrote in my previous message that nsmain should ask someone who speaks Russian to call for him. |
