Hello,

I am taking a summer trip to Russia (from St. Petersburg to Moscow).
As I already like what I have learned about Russian culture, history and architecture, a friend of mine convinced me to take a trip there together.
I would love to practice some Russian (very basic) - just learning from a book w/o practice is not so good.. I have heard there is a large Russian community here, but I have not met many Russians (or Russian-Americans). I have seen language forums in DC but never including Russian.
Also, any advice kind of clothes one should wear for August?

Thanks

There are hundreds of thousand of Russian speakers in New York City - 4-5 hours away by car. Come to Brooklyn, NY and you will hear Russian being spoken virtually everywhere - especially in such neighborhoods as Sheepshead Bay, Brighton Beach, King Highway, Midwood and Bensonhurst...

There are often cultural events at the consulate in DC. You might try to catch something there to connect with the local Russian-American community.

Better yet, go to one of the Russian restaurants in the DC area - not too manhy Russians are going to attend events at the consulate. I have heard of any Russian immigrant attending any kind of event at the New York consulate, and I doubt it is happening in DC.

Check out this website:

Russians often come to this organisation's events.
