I just booked the Vodka Train for Aug 21-Sept 10 2006, departing from St.Petersburg, stopping at Lake Baikal, going through Mongolia, and arriving in Beijing. I've been fascinated with Russia for a number of years and think this trip would be an unbelievable experience.

The tour company (vodkatrain.com) is Australian and offers tours for 18-35 year olds. Does anyone have experience with this company they could share?

It seems like a fairly budget tour at only approx $2200 Canadian, so not sure what exactly it will be like. The company Vodka Train is quoted on many travel websites, so I'm sure it has a decent reputation.

Any insights to this tour would be appreciated...

Andrew

I am also still searching for a travel companion for this trip, so if anyone is interested in coming at this time, please let me know.

This is a very reasonably-price Trans-Siberian tour and goes with a group of 15 people 18-35 years old.

I've heard about that Vodka Train thang. . . . Personally, I'm not a tour type of person, but if ever I did go on one that'd be it.

My parents booked a trip from the same company that does the Vodka Train. They're going to China this summer. The company seems very professional, and quite reasonably priced for that type of thing, too.

Well, I'm done rambling inanely, good luck and have fun! Come back and post about your trip after you've gone.

Hi Andrew,

Just realised i hadnt been back to post my thoughts on vodkatrain!

I had an absolutely FANTASTIC time, i did the trip from Beijing and finished in St Petersburg.

We had 8 in our group, 1 Kiwi, 1 Brit and 6 Aussies. It is organised really well without being a typical "tour". Basically a local meets your group at each station and take you to where ever you are staying and then helps you decide what you should see in the area. So there is definately plenty of time for you to do exactly what you want!

Anyway - if you have any questions about the trip let me know.

Cheers
Ali
