There's a couple of posts somewhere about this topic. I stayed at a mini-hotel, the Armii - round to the right as you come over the bridge from the train station.

It was three years ago I'm afraid but it didn't look like the sort of place that would go out of business overnight.

Long ago....at the moment the business is expending there, especially petroleum and my British friend supposed to go to Irkutsk on assignment. 3 years!!!
and we know nothing about Irkutsk. Would be great to find some expats there!! |

| Why don't you just stay at your friend's place in Irkutsk. He should be able to go to the local OVIR and organise an invite for you. Alternatively, I've heard that Amerikansky Dom ain't too bad, although I can't know for sure, just going by what the LP guys say on that one. |

| That's it....even my friend don't know where to stay since his employee company just gave him money - go and find a flat!!! Impossible for an expat being first time even in to russia to find a flat in IRKUTSK!!! |

| I hope I'm not too late but I'm pretty new to this site. I saw a british ex-pat on www.couchsurfing.com who is living in Irkutsk, he's an engineer so its possible he is in the resources sector too. Might be worth giving him a message thru that site. Cheers. |
