If you've ever tried to get internet access in a place like Nizhny Novogorod, Chebokshary or Saratov, you know what a nightmare it can be. I guess that for a while, internet access was considered a 'luxury' item and the only way to get on was to use a telephone modem and buy a 5-dollar card that would allow you about 10 hours online. Now there's a company - www.jdsl.ru - that is offering high-speed internet at more affordable rates. For the first time you can get unlimited DSL access. Granted, the price is still about 4x what it is in Moscow, but it's much much better than it was. For example, you can get 64kbps for 1000 rubles and 128 for 2500. In Moscow 128 costs 20 dollars/month through Stream, but originally you paid by the megabyte and it was about 1 ruble per megabyte. In N. Novogorod it's currently 2 rubles per megabyte (at a speed of 2 Mbps. or more.)
