2 days stopover
Ulan Bataar->Beijing

Any help/experiences appreciated

There is a likn on this site to "train tickets" that will give you quotes and timetables. If you can possibly do it it's way cheaper to get the tickets for each sector yourselfas you go.

I bought my Trans-Sib tickets through Marlis Travel (www.marlis.ru). They're connected in some way to Monkey Shrine (you'll have to Google them, I can't remember the address).

Anyway, my point is that they gave me excellent service and were much, much cheaper than any UK based agent. Also, they were happy to book only the train tickets, rather than putting me on an organised tour or something.

Not sure how their prices compare with doing it all yourself as you go, but I imagine you could save a significant amount again.

Dan

I did the trip last May.
I used a travel agency in Russia via their website and by telephone, spoke English, most helpful and couriered the tickets to me in the UK. They are the SVEZHY VETER AGENCY, a search on Google should find their website.
