Academgorodok - is what one should visit: academgorodok itself, botsad (botanic garden), ob'-sea.
About museums: it's interesting to visit museum "under open sky" and archeology museum with altai mummies, museum of the sun, museum of trains.
If you have an opportunity to take a car - there are a lot of beautiful places around novosibirsk. |

urw!
i forgot to write about bars. In downtown there are good art-bars: truba, dacha, dekanat (this one is in academgorodok)... And many bars without art-themes - i think it is useless to advice smth, because walking on downtown streets you will choose it yourself.
if you re planning to visit novo at summer i could write about places near the city with beautiful nature. |

It's no problem with bringing children to bars. I think they even won't have nothing against your daughter drinkin'
About places of nature i'll write later.
Yeah, it's good here at summer, especially in academgorodok. |

So, about nature in Novosibirsk region.
As one russian spoken-word artist said - "after Ural destinations counts not in kilometers, but in hours".
So, in 30 min from the city and 10 min walk from academgorodok there is ob' sea, as i said. With beaches, islands and everything for active leisure. (like there - http://ilia-romantic.narod.ru/obsea/obsea.html ). |

| Then, 2-3 h from novosibirsk there are many lakes (like on this photos - http://forum.academ.org/index.php?showtopic=194407). And hills like there -http://ilia-romantic.narod.ru/bugotak/bugotak_2004.html . |

| Also novosibirsk's citizens like to go to altai. It's great to spend a weekend there - mountains, forests, lakes, rivers etc. Photos - the first block on this page http://ilia-romantic.narod.ru/#albums . |

Also near the novosibirsk (~1 h) there are many ex-"sanatoriums" working now as small hotels for family holidays. Like this one - http://www.dobry.ace.ru/galereja/leto-2006/ or www.sosnovka.biz. I don'l like such activity, but may be it would be good for you.
Also, in Novosibirsk there are a lot of places where you can feel the atmosphere of "red october" and "half life" . Old soviet factories, unfinished building with unknown purposes, bunkers etc.
Well, that all that i have remembered now, maybe write smth more later).
And i advise you to reserve one day for a classic russian "shashliky" (barbecue)
p.s. i'm sorry for posting one post in 5 parts, but this Forum do not allow to be more than one URL-link in on post. |

i decided to write about some cultural aspects you could understand without knowing Russian.
Novosibirsk's opera and ballet theater is the biggest and one of the best known in russia. And for next several years it will be the main russian opera and ballet scene, 'cause mariinskiy (spb) and the big theater in moscow are in partial reconstruction. http://www.opera-novosibirsk.ru/index.php?locale=en_us |

Also the philharmonic is very good and respected. http://www.philharmonia-nsk.ru/index.php?action=&lang=en
There are art galleries, but only selective events are worth to visit (since you have possibility to see much more great thing in europe or us). maybe it could be interesting to see modern russian art, but, sincerely, novosibirsk has poor modern-art society.
Folk music concerts (for example, you can search web for "yat-kha", "bugotak", "pelageya" music) is interesting too.
p.s. i'm sorry again. this forum tells me that 5 and more URL are not allowed, but don' want to post even 2 in one post |
