Russia had been slowly transforming from a feudal system (still in place early 19th century) to a more modern agrarian society, but I doubt any measure by the Tzars would have been enough to ward off what has finally happened to them. The class differences were too big. I don't think anyone of the 'working classes' cared about his death in that time.

Yes, big, big, differences!
I'm going over my book again, taking notes to try and grasp some facts.
The gap between peasantry/workers versus the elite was huge!

Since I've been on this site, I'm really enjoying reading and talking about Russian/Soviet happenings. There are a few Russian study courses at U of T so maybe I will go that direction.

High school, well 20 something years ago, was boring but I went to the wrong school! Laughing

I went to the closest school, 3 blocks from home, which wasn't smart as it was a technical school. If I wanted to fix cars, that was the school for me.
Can't change a tire even now!

Oh well, education isn't a waste but I sure shootin would try to direct my kids (if I had any) to get a good education, to help get them a job but to also open their minds, to see the world beyond the small area they actually live in.

Good for you, YG. I'm a mature student too. It was a bit tough to get into school for me. I'm not just a mature student, I'm also a Russian speaking immigrant. Never mind two kids and a full time job. Wink

Schooling is great. I know there is never a "good time" to do it though.

Admirable feat Daria!

Reminds me of my sister who had to go back to school when my nieces were just small. It was hard for her but she graduated in nursing. She works in Native mental health now, up where my family is from, where she was born, Parry Sound.

I'm sure you'll do fantastically well! A wonderful example for your kids.

Oh, thank You, YG. I do have two girls. The oldest one is going to school this year. It's very exiting. She is going to be five this January.

I' ve got some new shoes and a backpack for her....
I can't believe, I'm taking my daughter to school this year. I remember my mother when she took me to school......I thought then, my folks were ancient...
I guess I'm in their shoes now. It's pretty sad. We are getting older. I'm not even thirty yet, but I feel so old. I don't know why.
Gentlemen, please, no comments.
