I tried searching for this topic already, but to no avail.
I'm actually here on behalf of a friend. He's studying abroad in Moscow through June, but from the sounds of it, he and many of the other students don't like to get out much due to the cold. This means they're generally cooped up inside their dorm rooms watching movies/tv shows from home. It doesn't sound very exciting, and I don't think my friend is enjoying it much.
So, my question is, what kind of fun things can people get up to during the cold winter? Are there any other students/former students who had a similar problem, and do you have any advice for how to better enjoy one's time in Moscow? Is it simply to just get over it and get out there?
Thanks in advance! |

Skateboarding by -10C ? Russia is not California LOL
Actually I would advise you ice skating instead of skate bording...
Yes tons of good clubs in Moscow... so you will need tons of $$$$$$$$
Spending 1 or 2 weeks of hollidays (only for fun if I understood you right) is definetly not the same than spending the whole year to study.
When I asked to a russian friend why Russians like reading so much, she simply answered that during the six months of winter there is nothing else to do... |

Having visited Moscow several times in January, I can tell you with ZERO reservations (heh heh, that was a joke) that skateboarding in Moscow in January is not a good plan. Unless you can find an indoor park.
But randomly going to Russia to hang out is a very cool idea.
That's how I started.

| You check some gigs when you are there. The punk/alternative music scene is up and coming in Russia. There are many talented bands and they usually have an edge on instruments like sax and trombone, so they have many wicked Ska bands and much better the USA. Guitar is still weak in Russia in comparison. |
