Thank you, surfguy and SoundBrigade. You've helped clear a lot of doubts I might have had.

Oh, I don't subscribe to tht stupid 'loose Russian woman' stereotype at all. I think, as you put it (more nicely), a load of bollocks! I was being sarcastic to a lot of blokes from my country who seem to whinge about racism while being unbelievably racist themselves.
I'll watch out for the 'groups of young males drinking' - we have the same problem in India (with large groups of young men - it's not racist - at least not to me - but it's usually other forms of harrasment).
And yeah, I'm definitely taking a couple of bottles of good vodka back with me. |

1/2 of the world's registared White Supremicist are from Russia. So the threat is real. But they confine themselves in less touristy areas and pick "Cherny Ludi" or Georgians, Chechyan and so than actual blacks or East Indians.
I showed up wearing a Georgian Rugby jersey, and I was refused service and restaurants and bars. I switched with my Canadian Jersey, I got served right away.
If you do not believe there is rascism, watch the attempt at Gay Parade. There is one thing to stop the illegal parade, but watch the thugs go out beat the queers.
I have been to Russia three times and I will probably never go back until things have changed |

Yes I have my two good bottles of vodka...one with the pepper in it...figured i'd give that a try. Also beware of Georgian wine...do not buy...as there is a definite trouble with it. |

| it's very difficult in societies and one thing is for certain...change the mindset of the people and you can change and shape a society. Racism is every where and being anti gay is not racism...gays are not a race. Societies need to determine what is acceptable and what is not. So we can only blame the Russian government and the russian people for allowing or not allowing gays. Ultimately Russia needs to decide and to act on the issue. As far as being anti Georgian or what ever...well things are not good between the two countries and so many Georgian mafia are in Russia...same goes for the Azerbaijanis etc. Again this is not racism...this is nationalism...And Russia and it's people needs to decide. As for anyone...really if we are outsiders...and we do not like what is that goes on in Russia...we have two choices...avoid the place...or take our chances. It's unfortunate but that is the reality. People are stupid to go to places where they are not welcomed. And societies are are wrong to not welcome. Gonna take time to change the mind set |

Surfguy, Georgian wine was good enough until they sided with the USA instead of Russia, then the quality control disappeared.
Mafia is correct, but Russian mafia is the bureaucracy they have built.
Surfguy, you have two choices, but majority of Russians have only one choice live with it. That is why many of the women are willing to drop the laundry to find a foreigner especially ones that live in the village. |

There is no such thing in Russia as "good or high quality Georgian wine". You just can't buy good Georgian wine in a shop. Even for big amount of money. Best description of liquid selling under name of Georgian wine is - sour water with a paint. Either everything named Georgean wine is fake or every Georgian wine sold in Russia is shit.
I can buy high quailty wines from France (sometime I get head aches after them, but they ok), from Crimea (IMHO, best sweet wines in the world), from Australia (nice but very specific taste), from Chili and Hispania (good wines for their price) in a shop, but I can't buy high quality wines from Georgia. This state has been for a long time. |

I tasted Georgian wine when I was in Minsk 10 yeras ago. I guess it wasn't fake because we were in a nice and expansive Club and I was really surprised, this red wine was sweet Well, I didn't like it at all.
As for French wine, everybody abroad think french wine should be from Bordeaux. As a French I am not really fan of Bordeaux, too heavy for me. I prefer lighter red wines like Beaujolais (not the Beaujolais nouveau, this one sucks), if you find Beaujolais called Julienas, Morgon, Brouilly you will not be disapointed, the same with some Cote du Rhone like Saint Joseph, this one is one my favorite and no headache garanted.
About Spanish ones, Sangre de Toro (blood of bull) is a very decent one for a very reasonable price, it is quite wide spread, I think you can find it easely in Russia.
Well, I guessed you were talking about Spain when you say Hispania, we don't call this country that way since the Roman Empire |

I do not think that red wine must be semi-sweet or dry. For example most of sweet wines from Crimea have deep red color.

I noticed this. Grand PR company in Russia and bad taste.

Thank you. I must write these names to my note book. Next time I'll visit wine store I will try to select something from your recomendations.

Thanks for correction. Of course Spain. My mistake. "Hispania" also word from old Russian spelling from XV..XVI century. |
