It was a historic victory in St. Petersburg today for Zenit over the German Champions, Bayern Munich. Congratulations to last season's Champions of Russia on securing a spot in the UEFA Cup Championship match.
It was the first time I have ever watched Zenit play and I was really impressed with how easily they were able to defeat the Bayern. After a 1-1 draw in Munich, Zenit only needed a 0-0 draw at home to advance to the Final in Manchester, England. Instead Zenit completely dominated the Germans and won quite easily by the final score of 4-0. |

| Quote: | ST PETERSBURG, Russia, May 1 (Reuters) - Zenit St Petersburg's stunning 4-0 victory over German giants Bayern Munich in their UEFA Cup semi-final on Thursday earned them praise from the winning and losing coaches.
'We were a much better team than them,' was the verdict of Zenit boss Dick Advocaat after the second-leg rout gave his team a 5-1 aggregate victory and a place in the May 14 final against Rangers.
'Bayern are one of the best teams in Europe, but tonight we outplayed them technically and tactically, were much sharper in front of the goal, so all the credit should go to our team, to the boys,' he told reporters. |

| Quote: | Zenit St Petersburg secured passage to their first-ever European final in emphatic fashion after inflicting a 4-0 defeat on Bayern Munich in their UEFA Cup semi-final second-leg clash at Petrovsky Stadium.
After holding the German outfit to a 1-1 draw in the first leg at the Allianz Arena last week, first-half goals from Konstatin Zyryanov and Pavel Pogrebniak set Dick Advocaat's men on their way to the final at the City of Manchester Stadium on May 14.
Viktor Faitzulin added a third 11 minutes after the restart while Pogrebniak's second of the night after 73 minutes ensured Bayern coach Ottmar Hitzfeld's final European campaign before taking up the reins of the Swiss national team ended on a sour note. |
