First sorry, Im not sure where to post this....
I know that this is a dumb question but I need some thoughts....
I recently sent a friend her birthday present, but it hasn't gotten there yet. Let start by saying that I paid for 10 day garunteed shipping, it has been 11 business days (although I have mailed things that were garunteed a couple weeks and it took a month and a half). Im not too worried about the timing aslong as she gets it soon.
This package contains simple things like picture, hemp braclet (at no money value), ect. But it also contained a $5 bill for money that I owed her, I wasnt thinking about this until I read the reciept thats states that I can not send any foreign currency unless I purchase insurance. It has been ten business days and I she has not recieved the package. So...
-Do they search every package leaving US and entering Rus?
-Would they deny a single five dollar bill? or at least remove the money and conitnue shipping the rest?
and finally
-When the post office gives you a garunteed time frame, is the for delivery or is that much time to arrive in Russia's mail system?
I know it was long, but THANKS for all the help |

No. Except suspected receivers possibly.

You know, there is no USSR anymore and hence possessing foreign currency is no longer a crime at least for twenty years. You can send money via Western Union for example.

This is trouble. Still. State Postal Service is monopoly and hence they are lazy. My sister has received 1000 euros from her husband who was on long business trip in EU in last day before her flight to visit him. Foreign Customs Office wouldn't let her enter EU without money. |

I knew that I could send money but the lady at the post office made it seem like you cannot send it via "mail". I would have sent it Western Union but it didnt seem worth the fee for 5 bucks.haha. I only say this to TRY and deffend myself from looking REAL dumb.
THANKs again |

Hmmm. Besides all that other stuff in your note, hmmm. What would the US and the Russians have a hard time with? A $5 bill? Hardly. A "hemp bracelet"... Hmmm... well, I don't know. I did have problems with my heroin bracelet and all that other stuf...
But maybe it'll get through? |

This depends on... However Russian Postal Service can be heroic some times:

I'll try to explain humor of this situation: Some Russian girl has filled form in western on-line shop using Cyrilic letters. Of course, western on-line shop has different character encoding and her order was malformed (black cryptic letters). But some die-hards in Russian Postal service was able to deduce ASCII codes of letters written on package and manually transcode them to valid Russian letters (red comments above). |

I have sent money lots of times, usually a $50 note to buy DVD's. It has never failed to arrive but the timeframes have varied between 3 and 8 weeks. Return can be 3 months if it goes by sea.
Be patient. |

Thanks for your help...
I know that I have to be patient, I just wish when the post office gives a guaranteed time frame that it is at least somewhat close it!! |

I send parcels to St Petersburg regularly, by post.
It is reliable, but slow.
And my fiancee tells me the parcels often have small holes in them. She is convinced that the post office workers poke holes to check if there is anything worth stealing.

| I have send many packages to St Petersburg from the US without a problem,up to 6 pounds in all different size boxes.Send them INTERNATIONAL EXPRESS,(not Global Express) she received everything I shipped and the longest it took was 10 business days from New York. Some were delivered in a weeks times,I found it to be faster and half the price of FED EX.Also the package is trackable on the postal website |

| Hello-I also have sent parcels thru the us mail to stp.It is very economical.Unfortunately-this parcel took 8 weeks to arrive at her office. Now i ship to finland. This is more costly-but she takes a bus to helsinki-gets a room for the night-and via fed x-the parcel is at the hotel waiting for her.We found this to be safe with parcels with expensive contents.Scott B. |

NOTE: I just got the package back (actually a couple weeks ago) from return as it was not received... WOW that took a long time for "10 day" shipping haha |
