| Be sure to try a dish of Russian ice-cream if you go to Russia. Last summer I went to several cafes and morozhenoe was on the menu. Sometimes the cafes had morozhenoe but usually they did not. Seems there was a shortage and people were eating it faster than the companies could make it ( that's what I was told ). Last summer was hot in Moscow and people were wearing as few clothes as they could. |

Wow, I was in Moscow all summer last year and there was as much ice cream widely availble as ever. On the street, in the parks, grocery stores, ubiquitous in restaurants and cafes.
Um maybe this *shortage* was only for certain visitors who were then obliged to pay more for it than the usual price? Russians are nororious for ripping off foreigners at every opportunity. |

When I ordered ice cream ( and the cafe said it was available ), I always paid menu price. Would ice cream have been available for more money? Maybe, but the waitress didn't appear to be looking for a bribe. She said the delivery truck didn't bring any ice cream on their last delivery to the cafe.
The cafes were within a 10 minute fast walk from the nearest Metro station. The Metro stations were the last or near last stations at the end of Metro lines. I wanted to see what Moscow was like on the outskirts of the city within the Metro system coverage area. |
