I suppose the short version of this question is: upon arrival at Sheremetyevo 2, can a Russian citizen go through the section of passport control that's for foreign citizens?
The reason I'm asking is that my wife and son and I will be travelling through Sheremetyevo 2 and I don't want us to have to split up, especially because we have to transfer to Sheremetyevo 1 and catch another plane. My wife is a Russian citizen and I'm a Canadian citizen. Our son is a citizen of both Russia and Canada, but he'll be travelling on his mother's passport. |

| When my wife and I (US citizens) returned to Russia with our daughter (dual US and Russian citizenship), we went through the citizens line with her because it was shorter. We had no problems. I think families traveling together can choose the most convenient line. My daughter (five years old at the time) had both US and Russian passports with her. I'm not sure what problems you might encounter entering or leaving Russia without any passport for your son. |

Thanks for the info, camarks. Glad to hear it worked for you. It hadn't occurred to met that I could go through the citizens line with my wife and son. Maybe I'll try that, instead of dragging them into the foreigners' line.
My son is written into my wife's passport, so it's all ok. That's how they do it with very young children (he's a year and a half). We had the option of getting him his own Russian passport, but the consulate staff seemed to think it wiser to put him on his mother's passport.
He has a Canadian passport too, which looks pretty funny - it's the standard passport, but with a mugshot of a baby in it. |
