|
|
Following on from the "what do Russian sthink fo Australians", i thought id ask about my own country and its people: Ireland and the irish.
What do you Russians think of us? Also sterotypes etc?
As an irish man that spent a mere 3 days in Russia, i think of the Russians as being very friendly but love to follow rules and regualtions. As a nation Russians also seem very obident, tough, slightly weary of other nations but most importantly great fun - Ive never met a nation of people who are so much fun and a little crazy but when i say that i speak only for the women. The men seem very afraid to show emotion and they seemed to rarely laugh or joke about - very differnet to the ladies. Im also talking about the poele of my age group - 20 -25. They seemed never to smile, while the womne seem to go about having great fun and going crazy.
Both the men and women were very intrested to learn and hear about my stories from ireland which was really cool. i relaly enjoyed the country and cannot wait to visit again, ive traveled the world and would put the Russians up along with the soundest nation of people iv emet |

Too far and too small amount of contacts for stereotypes. Memory suggests following chain of words: irish morale (means extremely bravery), struggle for independence from England (however someone may think Ireland is part of Britain, not independent state), Braveheart with Mel Gibson, celtic culture and music (I like actually this kind of music - Deanta: "I'm ready for the storm"), Riverdance... probably this is all.

Who is obedient? Russians? Ha-ha. There is Russian proverb:
"Idiocy of russian laws is compensated by non-compulsion of their execution" |

Actually "Brave Heart" aka William Wallace was Scottish not Irish
But it seems Irish people are known all over the world for their bravery (well, except in England LOL).
As for Russians, I don't think they are so obedient, there is a Russian proverb from the soviet times I like a lot :
"They (the communist party) pretend paying our salaries and we (Russian people) pretend working"
LOL |

Well, actually first proverb have much more common with reality than second. When Russia was under communists rule there were many good things. For example salaries have been paid without any delays and in full size. During soviet times Russia completed many significant projects, but none after them. For all that happened we should thank our stupidity and our "friends" from the west. |

Ok maybe i was a little wrong about the Russians being obedient, but there was something about it that made me pick up on that...
Another thing for certain was that the Russians for the msot part seemed really embaressed about their country, yes they loved Russia but seemed a little ashamed of it. I was forever reassuring them that its an amazing country and that was the reason i was there. Nearly everybody i spoke to " Why you come to Russia, its real shit!?". FOr the most part I spoke with Russians in their early to mid twenties, I think lot of them hadnt been outside Russia and presumed that Western Europe was some sort of idealic place were everything was beautiful and everyone was rich and really happy, whereas we all know thats not the case. i dont know wy they all thought that though.... |

There is no such thing as being ashamed of Russia. They are ashamed by themselves. The Russia is great country, however due to our stupidity and stupidity our recent leaders it have various problems.
There is DDT's song called "Motherland". Rough translation below:
| DDT wrote: |
My God
For how many years have I been walking
And I haven’t made a single step
My God
For how many days have I been looking
For what is always with me
For how many years have I been chewing
Instead of bread on raw love
How many lives at my temple
Does a burnished steel shaft spit –
The long-awaited vastness
Black headlights in the neighboring yard
Hatchways, handcuffs, torn mouth
How many times did my head
Roll off the overflowing guillotine
And flew here, where is –
Motherland
I’m going to the Motherland
Let them shout it’s ugly
But we like it all the same
So it’s not a beauty
So trustful to scum, but to us –
Tra-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la….
Hey, boss !
My God
How much truth in the eyes of the government whores
How much faith in the hands of the fired executioners
Please don’t let them roll up their sleeves again
Please don’t let them roll up the sleeves
Of eventful nights
Black headlights in the neighboring yard
Hatchways, handcuffs, torn mouth
How many times did my head
Roll off the overflowing guillotine
And flew here, where is –
Motherland
I’m going to the Motherland
Let them shout it’s ugly
But we like it all the same
A sleeping beauty
So trustful to scum, but to us –
Tra-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la….
Hey, boss!
From under black shirts bursts a red rooster
From under kind czars marmalade pours into mouths
Never has this world had room for both –
Father was our god, and our devil –
Motherland,
I’m going to the Motherland
Let them shout it’s ugly
But we like it all the same
A sleeping beauty
So trustful to scum, but to us –
Tra-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la….
Heeeey, boss!

As long as level of life is raising in Russia, they able to travel and see how other people live. I know many people with same thoughts about Western Europe but they change their opinions about Europe. They begin to understand - there is no paradise neither in America nor in Europe. The only paradise is one which will be created by their own blood and sweat.
There is modern proverb in Russia:
"What is happiness? The happiness is to have European salary, to live in Russia, and to entertain and relax in south exotic country". |

I'd call it "Soviet provincialism". |

"Idiocy of russian laws is compensated by non-compulsion of their execution"
Saltykov-Shchedrin said that. |
