I have been learning the Russian alphabet off of several websites online, including this one http://learningrussian.net/russian_alphabet.php which I find most useful. It says that the letter "P" sounds like "r" in British "bright".

But despite many resources I still have problems with the letter "P". Some say that it is pronounced as flapped “tt” in the word "matter", but every word I find on other sites it is pronounced “r”. Which is the correct pronounciation?

P is actually R....but its a rolled R. like how a cat purrs or a bell rings, if you can imitate those things, you can pronounce that letter.

I understand now. I prefer to think of it as a rolled "R".
Audio samples would be even better.

for audio, you can find that on masterussian.com

also, go on youtube.com just type in russian language in the search box, or russian or anything else. There is actually a "series" of russian language lessons I found on Youtube. do a search for Huliganov
a man named Victor Huliganov has several videos of the language......and he is also entertaining to watch!
