Hi there,

I have a question about visiting a russian city not listed on my visa application. When i applied and received my 30 day single entry tourist visa, it lists Moscow and St Petersburg as the cities on my itinerary. Now i want to visit Irkutsk instead of St Petersburg, but am worried about being nabbed by police. Is there any way that i can get official permission in Moscow, to visit Irkutsk even though it is not listed on my visa/tourist confirmation voucher?

And would it be risky to just jump on a train to Irkutsk and stay there anyway? I realise that when i try to book into a hotel/hostel that they will have to register my visa and therefore i am concerned. Maybe ill just have to camp in the woods or something Smile

And while im on the topic of Irkutsk, can anybody recommend CHEAP accomodation there? Ive looked on Hostelworld.com but it always shows no availability for late october. Now i thought it would be low season then so im hoping its just a case of not being able to reserve online. And ideally i would love to stay with a russian family if possible, but am not sure how to arrange it.

If anyone can help me out with these questions ill be very appreciative as i leave for Moscow in 4 days!

Cheers,

Dave

I don't think it would be much of a problem visiting another city that is not listed on your visa support. Basically the proof of acomodation and itinerary is to ensure that you are not a deadbeat and will not staying past your visa expiration date. Police may try to scam you, but maybe just tell them you are taking the long way between Moscow and St. Petersburg. Wink
