hi guys,
sorry for the slightly delay of my moscow trip report.
Wink

texi is reasonable priced. never spend more than 200 roubles on single trip. consider the size of moscow.
got on moscow bus, and didnot pay for the ticket. we wanted to buy one, but seems everyone just jumped on and off without paying. bit surprise for me!

August weather is just perfect. warm and sunny (at least during my visit).

the only disappointment was in SVO-2.
when I first arrived SVO-2, the immigration control officer handed my passport to a senior officer and after about ONE hour , my passport retured, and no reason being given. was bit annoying when I saw everyone behand me passing the control without any problem. strange!
I think mainly bcz my doggy chinese passport. fair enough.

the horror was when I was going back to UK. SVO-2 was in chaos felt that have spend centuried to reach the bording gate. but still squeezed several mins to buy some duty-frees. cheaper than Heathrow airport!
strongly suggest everyone to fly with British Airway rather than Aeroflot, just simple bcz BA fly to Domodyedovo. Wink

overall, I like the whole trip to moscow. it is great city, beautiful view, friendly people,(maybe bit shy?).

more report will be done after my new year trip to russia!. cannot wait to get there again!
poka!

PS : QUESTION: does every russian hotel have visa register service? if i orders a invitaion from here. can I registe it in tomsk?
going to see friends in tomsk during christmas and new year. need to sort out visa things. cannot image to be stopped by cop on the street when it is -30 degrees
may thanks!

Hi, glad your trip went well.

Just a small comment on British Airways and Aeroflot. I'm a kind of patriot, so I always try to use Russian goods and services.

But, that's not the case for Aeroflot.

About two weeks ago I was going to fly to London from Moscow. Got my Aeroflot ticket and came to Sheremetyevo 2 airport. At the check-in they told me that I have excess luggage and told me I will have to pay. Well, I was not against it, except that according to the rules written in the ticket, I DID NOT have excess luggage. My check-in luggage was exactly 20kg while my hand luggage was fitting in the permitted dimensions. Anyway, I had a choice of either paying extra $70 or not boarding the plane.
However, the problem was that the Aeroflot check-in person was really rude. When I told her that I'm not going to pay she said I'll have to, because her salary depends on how much she'll make on me. Can you imagine? So, I thought "go to hell" and took my ticket and didn't take my flight. By the way, it was delayed 6(!) hours.

On my way back from the airport I went into the office of my airline ticket agent and changed the flight to British Airways, departing the next day. I had to pay about $70 extra, but the feeling of not allowing Aeroflot to fuck me up was pleasant enough to afford that.

I took my BA flight the next day from Domodedovo airport, no problems with luggage whatsoever (I had the same stuff as the day before), the airport itself is really great (nice food, cafes, shops, wireless internet -- checked my mail!).
And British Airways is really great -- good service, without fake smiles you often see on other western airlines, clean plane, and delicious food.

Ok, maybe I'm being too positive, but comparing to Aeroflot and Sheremetyevo, British Airways and Domodedovo are much better.

FYI, there are two airlines currently making regular flights to Domodedovo: Swiss Air and British Airways.

Most of the hotels in Russia provide visa registration service for their cliets. There are, however, cheap hotels which cant afford the license for working with foreigners - these hotels will not provide the registration and will not accept foreigner as a client.
So, if you are going to stay in the usual hotel, which accepts foreigners they will provide the visa registration.

Cheers,

Hi. Me and my friend were travelling from warsaw to Moscow by train. Iw was already dark when we crossed the Byelorussian border... Immigration officers came into the train and said we had to go down. We were guided to a police room or something.... told to wait wait and wait... we didn't know what was happening since we didn't speak any russian and we were the only passengers asked to get off the train. I think it was because of our dubious peruvian passports, there was nothing wrong with them, but still, its a shitty passport in terms of prestige. I now think that the train stopped for like an hour to change wheels because the railways in former USSR countries are wider. We were then escorted back to the train. We felt so relieved. Now I laugh at it, but when I was on that bench I was REALLY scared. I guess it was one of the coolest experiences I've lived so far.
