I did this journey in May 2008 from Beijing to Moscow non stop.
I used the booking dept of CITS (Chinese tourist board).
It was very easy payment can be made by Paypal and you pick up the ticket ... |

Buy the Trans Siberian Hanbook by Bryn Thomas it gives detailed descriptions of all the key towns and cities, no doubt Lake Baikel will be a must.
