Can my friend send me an invitation letter for a Russian visa?

If my friend sends me an invitation letter, what does it need to include and how long will it take to be processed? I would like to visit in about a month...thanks!

The invitation letter is done through a local police office at the address of your friend's registration. They have an official form your friend has to fill in and once they process it (which takes about 1 month), your friend will get that form and can post it to you so you can get your Russian visa.
