3 year Visa for Americans Question

0 votes
I am a little unclear on the 36 month visa, I am reading everywhere that it is issued originally as a 30 day 1 entry invitation. Ok, i get that. Now how do i get it to become 36 months then? Do i have to use the 30 day visa, leave russia then re-apply, or will I get the 36 month visa (with multiple entry?) despite the invitation only saying its for 30 days.

No, you actually use a 30-day invitation but when you apply in the Russian consulate you ask for a 3year visa.
