Travel to Kiev during a Russian trip

I will be travelling as a tourist in Russia for 2 weeks. Midway in the trip we will take a train to Kiev and return to Russia after a few days. Do I have to include this trip on my visa application?

But I have a US passport which seems adequate for entry per Ukranian consulate website - my question is how much I have to document this travel outside Russia on my Russian tourist application
