Suzdal Hotels

There are many different kind of hotels in Suzdal for different prices: you can get a decent double in a stylish Russian hote-museum with a hundred years old interior for $22 US, a or you can have a bed in a former school dormitory for $2.5 US. The hotels in Suzdal have the same prices for foreigners and for Russians.
Suzdal is quite a popular town, so it's better to reserve as early as possible in advance, but it's not a big problem to find a place to stay even if you haven't reserved anything.
Suzdal is a great place to camp, see more information in our 'Camping' section below on this page.
Those who like extraordinary experiences can stay with a veteran of Angola and Afghan wars, who now has his own house and a garden in peaceful Suzdal.

The hotels were personally checked by WayToRussia.Net team in August 2001. The information was continuosly updated by waytorussia.net website visitors, however we can't guarantee it's completely up to date. The prices are in $ US.

RIZOPOLOZHENSKAYA HOTEL.
The singles are 230-280 roub ($8-$10), the doubles are 310 - 360 roub ($11 - $12.5) for a room, the triples are
Rizopolozhensky hotel
450 roub ($15) for a room. The 'improved' doubles (on the photo) are 500 roub ($17). An additional bed is 80 roub ($2.7). Breakfasts are not included, but there's a cafe downstairs. An additional fee is charged for reservations: 25% of one day price.
The standard rooms are in normal condition: quite clean, but not fancy, . more like hostel rooms. The toilets and showers are on the floor. The 'improved' room for 500 roub is quite spacious, has a private bathroom, there's furniture (two armchairs and a sofa), a double bed, and a tv.
Description. The hotel is located on the territory of Rizopolozhensky monastery, that was founded in 1207. The monastery is not looked after, so it's a bit of a chaos inside, but it's a nice calm place anyway. The hotel is located in a 5-story building, and it used to be a touristic base for schoolchildren who came to Suzdal for the holidays. Now schoolchildren still are welcomed, but it is opened for everybody. Inside the hotel is nothing special, just painted walls, stuffed halls, and high ceilings.
The reception and staff are polite and helpful.
Location.
It's located just next to the Red Square, behind the walls of Rizopolozhensy monastery in the middle of all Suzdal's sights.
WayToRussia.Net advice: the best quality for money hotel in Suzdal just in the town center, but lacks a special atmosphere.

Address: Rizopolozhensky monastery, inside. Walk along the main Lenina street to the direction of the Red Square, when you reach the square, turn left, walk along the walls of Riopolozhensky monastery, and come inside the walls on the right. The hotel building will be on your left. Contacts: reception & reservations (09231) 2-05-53

STUDENTS' TOURBASE.
Inside the youth center 'Slon' ('Elephant'), hosting a computer club upstairs, there's the cheapest place to stay in Suzdal. This part of the youth center is called tourbase 'Shkolnik' - 'Schoolboy', and was used to accommodate 'shkolniki' - schoolchildren coming here for the holidays. Now 'Shkolnik' can accommodate anybody, who doesn't mind to sleep in a stuffy dark room with ten beds, and dirty toilets outside in the hall. The main attraction is the price: 70 roubles ($2.4) for a bed, no breakfast. The reception is an old woman (babushka) who's on duty 24 hours a day. For some reason you can't pay directly to the babushka, you should go to Rizopolozhensky Hotel (just a few steps away outside, see the address above) and pay there.
The nice and polite babushka can keep your stuff safe in her room even if you don't stay there. She's ready to do it for free, but it's nice to leave her 10 roubles or so.

Address: A low white house on the corner of Lenina (aAIEIÇ) street and the Red Square (aÇOIǁ eIOsÇÉ?) with "SLON" written in Russian above the entrance. The entrance faces the Red Square.
Contacts: they don't have a phone there, but you can check availability at Rizopolozhenskaya hotel: (09231) 2-05-53

LIKHONINSKY HOUSE.
There are 2 single rooms for 420 roubles ($14), and 5 doubles for 630 roubles ($22). Breakfast and evening tea are included. You can use the kitchen downstairs for 15 roubles ($0.5).
Description. The old wooden house that was once owned by the Russian Likhoniny family, now has a museum with a hotel inside. There are seven rooms, each with a unique old-styled interior, that is supposed to look like it was hundred years ago. The rooms have different ambiances: for instance, there a single room with a real Russian 'pech' - fireplace, you can even sleep on it (there's a wooden bed also). There's another spacious double room with furniture made in Russian style. One double is with the modern furniture, so if you want an antique interior, make sure you don't get this room.
The hall is also very nice, with a cozy feeling, and there's a kitchen, and a living room on the first floor.
The staff is polite, but is too proud to look after such an interesting and unique place.
Location. The house is located in the center of Suzdal, within a 5-8 minute walk from the red square and Rizopolozhensky monastery.
WayToRussia.Net Advice: The most stylish hotel in Suzdal, with the cosiest atmosphere and fair prices. Book 2-4 weeks in advance, as it's very popular with Russians and foreigners.

Address: #34, Slobodskaya ul. Walk along the main Lenina street until you reach Rizopolozhensky monastery, turn left, walk along the monastery and then turn right. After 1 minute walk you'll see a sign showing you the hotel on your right.

TRAKTIR KUCHKOVA.
This is a posh expensive hotel with the imported atmosphere of an English guesthouse. The house is very pretty and is located not far from the centrer of Suzdal - 15-20 minutes walking. The doubles are for 1500 roub ($53), the 'lux' triples are for 2000 roub ($70), an additional bed is 500 roub ($17). Breakfast included, each room has a typical European guesthouse interior, a bath, a toilet, a shower, a tv with satellite channels.
There's a living room with a pool table and a TV in the hall downstairs.
The staff is polite, and speaks English with a small effort.

Address: #35, Pokrovskaya ul.. Directions: This hotel is located just next to Pokrovsky monastry on the opposite to the Kremlin side of Kamenka river.

POKROVSKAYA HOTEL.
The good old company Intourist has put old izbas (Russian wooden houses) on the territory of Pokrovsky monastery (which is operating, but open for tourists) and started to rent them to tourists. Izbas look real, the interior is simple: basic stuff in spacious rooms, a table, chairs, a bed. They can accommodate up to two people in one izba, which is strange, because the izbas are quite big. The price of one izba / per day is 1270 roubles ($44) for one person, and 1300 roubles ($45) for two persons, breakfast not included. To keep up with the old traditions, Intourist can offer you a slightly overpriced breakfast for 80 roubles ($2.5).
The staff is just polite enough not to piss you off.

Address: Pokrovskaya (OOIOÂOIǁ) Ul., on the territory of Pokrovsky (eOIOÂOIEE) monastery.
Contacts: phone / fax (09231) 2-08-89, 2-09-08 (be careful not to book another Intourist-run hotel 'GTK' accidentally). Email: gtk@tcsuz.vladimir.ru

GLAVNY TOURIST COMPLEX.
Intourist is an old company, that started to work in the Soviet times and was famous for its awful and overpriced services. Usually, Intourist-run hotels were located in high concrete buildings, scattered all over the country. Glavny (main) Tourist Complex in Suzdal is run by Intourist, and sounds intimidating, so you expect the worst.
The worst happens: 'GTK' large concrete two-story labirynth building is hidden behind the trees and monasteries. You may mistake it with a military base or a strange 'ufo' place from the outside. Intourist loads buses of Chinese tourists in this horrible place, that looks like an airport inside. Like any airport this 'GTK' thing has empty rows of seats in the middle of the hall, a bar, a restaurant, and a shop inside. Intourist-trained receptionists do their best to piss you off, like not answering your questions, showing you how busy they are.
The rooms are overpriced from $27 to $60 for a double.

Address: #7, Korovniki, next to Saviour Euphimiev Monastery.
