Chekist Town

Translated as “the town of Cheka officials” this area is a complex of 14 constructivist buildings created in 1930s. Some of the buildings are still residential and the most well-known one still houses Iset Hotel – originally it was a communal house for poor families. If you want to know what it feels like to live inside a piece of architecture that tried to marry avant-garde art and socialist ideology, you can even try to get a room there.
