State Art Museum

(Nachanovicha lane, 5 – near Lenina square, phone 51-41-06) – worth visiting art gallery, not very large, with some works of Art Museumoutstanding Russian painters of the second half of XIXth and first half of XXth centuries: Savrassov, Aivazovsky, Serov, Kustodiev, Konchalovsky, Korovin, Lentulov. Working hours: 11 a.m. – 5 p.m Mondays closed.
 

Regional Studies Museum

(Lenina prospect, 75 – near Novosobornaya square, phone 51-30-47, e-mail: museum@trecom.tomsk.ru) It claims to have an outstanding collection of artefacts from Central and South Asia, Siberia and Russia, of 18th and 19th centuries, and some people are impressed. Personally myself, I found nothing there. Working hours: 11 a.m. – 6 p.m., Mondays closed.

(Sportivny lane, 13 – near Novosobornaya square, phone 53-23-95). Working hours 9 a.m. – 4 p.m., weekends – 11 a.m.-5p.m. Tuesdays closed.
 

Wooden Architecture Museum

(Kirova prospect, 7 – near Tomsk State University, phone 56-40-97). Working hours – 11a.m  - 6 p.m., Mondays closed.

Siberian Botanical Garden

– founded in 1880, the oldest botanical garden in Asian part of Russia, has the unique collection of more than 6000 species.
 

Museum of Siberian Archaelogy and Ehtnography

– founded in 1882, has the collection of 300 000 pieces related to everyday life, culture, religion and warcraft of indigenous Siberian tribes. Working hours: 10a.m. – 5p.m., weekend closed.
 

Paleontological Museum

– has the collection of about 2 million of units – fossil plants, insects, imprints of fish, parts of skeletons and separate bones of numerous extinct species. Working hours: 10a.m. – 3p.m., weekends closed.
 

Mineralogical Museum

– founded in 1888. Has the unique collection of minerals from all around the world and almost comprehensive collection of minerals and gems from former Soviet Union. Open on weekdays from 10a.m till 5p.m.
 

Zoological Museum

– founded in 1888. Has exhibits, representing the most of animal species of Asian part of Russia, some of them now extict or at the bound of extinction. Open on weekdays from 9a.m. to 4 p.m.

Tomsk theaters combine traditions, variety and constant artistic explorations.

Drama Theater

(Lenina square, 4, phone 51-29-04) is one of the oldest in Siberia, having been founded in 1859. It stages classical plays and works of modern authors in classical traditions. Chamber Theater

Sport

Football team

“Tom’”

plays in the Russian Premier-League. In the season 2005 it finished 10th, but sets higher goals for the season 2006. Supporters in Tomsk are friendly and genuine, and there never can be any fights with fans of opposing team. Games take place at “Trud” stadium (Belinskogo str., 15), just behind Novosobornaya square.

 

Clubs
Fakel

(Krasnoarmeyskaya str. 120, phone 55-55-50) – one of the best entertainment centers in Siberia, with cinemas, bowling and pool. Dance and party music by residents and guest dj’s. Located in 15 minutes walk along Usova street from Polytechnical University (on Lenina street).
 

Kukushka (The Cuckoo)

(Moskovkiy tract, 2g, phone 52-98-72, ky-ky-shka@mail.ru) – small art-café, a place for exhibitions and concerts of underground bands. Very democratic prices. Situated behind the Botanical Garden on Lenina street.
 

Kakadu (The Cockatoo)

(Kirova prosp.,65, phone 54-44-44) – another club with quality dance music and concerts. Small, but nice. Located at the railroad station square, in the building of “Tomsk” hotel.
 

Aelita

(Lenina street, 78, phone 51-61-31) – small cinema that shows non-commercial (so-called art-house) movies and where concerts of some, again, non-commercial bands take place. Located downotown, next to Art Museum.
 

Underground

(Lenina str., 46, phone 51-63-91, e-mail: video@choco.tomsk.ru) – jazz-café. Good café and good jazz. The best jazz place in Tomsk. Best russian jazz people drop in to play something. Located close to Novosobornaya square.
