To count in Russian is to get one step closer to the very advanced mathematical intelligence that Russians have. The thing is that Russian language is almost especially made for advanced manipulations with numbers. Because if you manage to pronounce "14" (chetyrnadtsat), then it means you can manage complexity. If you can write it, you can manage chaos. Otherwise, Russian way of counting is very logical, there are no weird things like there is in French, where you have to say "four times twenty" when you mean "eighty".

Learning them will not only be a good addition to your vocabulary, but will also open up a whole new universe, which is not available to the bearers of other languages. We've also included some Russian words that have a foreign analogue, but that are so special in their etymology that they deserve to be next to the untranslatable ones, as they open up a different perspective on what we've considered as given before.

Russian Sovereignity

This article was written in 2011, after Putin announced that he was going to get elected for the 3rd term. This was a turning moment in the Russian history when many young people realized that the country is taking a new turn and went out to protest in 2011 and 2012.

Russian Culture

Even though Russia is considered to be a mix of Europe and Asia, this assumption is only based on geography. The reality is that culturally Russia has always been oriented towards the West and the recent influx of western lifestyle has created subcultures similar to those found in any other major country. At the same time, there is also something peculiar about the country and the people, even a little bit "Asian", which you can't really pinpoint. Perhaps, one could say that consciously the country is European, but subconsciously it's Asian.
